A malicious version of the npm package postcss-animate-css-vars has been identified and published to the npm registry. The package contains malware that grants outside entities full control of any computer on which it is installed or running.\n\nAccording to the advisory, any system with this package installed should be considered fully compromised. All secrets, keys, and credentials stored on affected computers must be rotated immediately from a different, unaffected system.\n\nWhile removal of the package is recommended, there is no guarantee that uninstalling it will remove all malicious software that may have been installed as a result of the initial compromise, given the level of system access the malware appears to have obtained.\n\nThe advisory was published on 2026-08-21 via GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-432g-6qr7-8hvh.
