A malware-laden version of the npm package web3-util has been identified and published to npmjs. The package grants full control of affected systems to an outside entity.\n\nAny computer with this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on affected systems must be rotated immediately from a different, uncompromised computer.\n\nWhile the malicious package should be removed, complete removal of all malicious software cannot be guaranteed due to the level of system compromise achieved by the malware.\n\nThis incident was disclosed via GitHub Advisory GHSA-qjvc-v9v6-xh96 on 2026-06-10.
