- yfiinanceMalicious package distributed on PyPI
A large-scale malicious package campaign distributed over 900 compromised packages through the Python Package Index (PyPI). The yfiinance package was among those affected by this attack.\n\nThe malicious packages installed browser extensions that performed clipboard manipulation and cryptocurrency wallet address replacement attacks. This technique allowed attackers to intercept and modify cryptocurrency transactions by replacing legitimate wallet addresses with attacker-controlled addresses when users copied and pasted them.\n\nThe campaign was identified and tracked by the OpenSSF's malicious-packages project (MAL-2023-2449). The incident demonstrates the risk of typosquatting and compromised packages in public package repositories targeting cryptocurrency users.
