The malicious package pydanticc on PyPI is a typosquatting attack designed to mimic the legitimate pydantic library. The package overrides the install command in setup.py to execute obfuscated malicious code during the installation process.
Upon installation, the malicious code downloads a remote executable and executes it on the victim's system. The payload is designed to exfiltrate cryptocurrency wallet data and likely other sensitive information from the compromised system.
The attack was identified and attributed to campaign 2026-08-flasq. The malicious package was discovered and reported through the OpenSSF's malicious-packages repository, which tracks confirmed supply chain attacks in open-source ecosystems.
